One of the arrested persons was running a placement agency. The arrested have been identified as Ismail Ahmed (32), hailing from Nowagaon in Assam and Babita (25), who runs a placement agency.
"Ahmed was arrested on May 5 when he struck a deal with a decoy customer for selling a minor girl for Rs 1.5 lakh. During interrogation he told about how a gang of brokers and agents operate in Assam, West Bengal and areas neighbouring Indo-Bangladesh border. The gang procures minors on the pretext of providing them better lives in Delhi," said Ashok Chand, DCP (crime).
The children were then handed over to an illegal placement agency run by Babita. The minors were rescued with the help of NGO Shakti Vahini.
According to the police, the minors had no knowledge if any salary was being paid to them or any salary was being sent to their parents for the household work performed by them. Most of them had no contact with their parents after coming to Delhi.
Babita also used to take monthly salary from employer but it never reached to children's parents. All the rescued minors have been medically examined and they have been sent to a children home.
