Sharma, a resident of Kathua (Jammu and Kashmir) died under mysterious circumstances in the Gulabi Bagh police station on April 5.

Directing the Delhi police commissioner to transfer investigations in the case to the crime branch, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Kaveri Baweja said, "Station House Officer (SHO) Gulabi Bagh police station should register an FIR against the policemen."

Passing the order, the court took into account an inquiry report submitted by Metropolitan Magistrate Twinkle Wadhwa, according to which, Sharma died due to injuries sustained in an assault at the police station.

Wadhwa had rejected the contention of the police officers that the victim, who was arrested in a criminal case, died due to being thrashed by the public, following an accident.
