The Democratic Youth Federation (DYF), a youth-wing of CPI(M), has moved the Supreme Court seeking a ban on sale and production of pesticide endosulfan. The organisation submitted that a large section of people were directly affected by the use of endosulfan that is already banned in 81 countries.

DYF claimed several studies had documented that endosulfan could also affect human development and it gave example of serious health hazards caused in Kasargod district in Kerala.

The petition said: “Researchers studying children from an isolated village in Kerala have linked endosulfan to delays in sexual maturity among boys.”
