Cricket betting racket busted in Delhi, 20 arrested

The Delhi Police arrests 20 people for allegedly running betting rackets involving cricket matches.

The Delhi Police on Saturday arrested 20 people for allegedly running betting rackets involving cricket matches.

According to police, information was received that one Rakesh Jain was using the first floor of his Subzi Mandi residence in north Delhi for betting on cricket matches and gambling. The accused was also charging Rs 50 per person as entry fee to his house.

"Acting on the information, we immediately conducted raids at the said house and 20 people were arrested immediately on Friday," Deputy Commissioner of Police Divesh Srivastva said.

"During interrogations it was revealed that Rajesh Gupta, Harjit Singh Kalra, Bishan Saroop, Sandeep, Hari Shankar and Surender were the mastermind of this racket. It was also established that betting was going on for the final cricket World Cup match between Australia and Sri Lanka," he added.

Police have recovered Rs 285,000 in cash, two notebooks, playing cards and a calculator.
