“Bibhuti Rath shot himself from his service rifle after he reportedly talked to a girl whom he was planning to marry. He probably had a fight with her over the phone,” a CRPF officer said in Delhi, adding Rath had not applied for leave.

The investigations into the exact cause of death are on, he said.

Rath (25), who had joined the force in 2003, was a resident of Orissa and posted at the 142 battalion headquarters of the force in Golaghat district of the state.
