This decision was taken in a meeting held at the Delhi secretariat and attended by officers from the transport Department and MCD.

Sources said the MCD will soon hand over the parking lots to the transport department for a yearly rent of R7 crore

Spread over 10 acres, the two parking lots—Sunehari Nullah behind Lodhi Hotel and Kushak Nallah near Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium—will collectively accommodate 350-400 buses.

Earlier, the prime minister-appointed Shunglu Committee had questioned the project’s legacy value.

Senior transport department officials, however, said that the use of these spaces to park cluster buses will solve the problem to an extent.

The department is now looking at appropriate parking lots for the 4,400 corporate-run cluster buses which are likely to run in Delhi in the next couple of years.

Constructed for R321 crore, the parking lots were partially used during the Games. Officials said that the space can also be utilised by corporates to set up small workshops.

But senior MCD officials said they were yet to get a formal proposal from the government in this regard, which will be then taken up in the Standing Committee.
