Spreading the message of shunning drugs for a healthy society, hundreds of military personnel and civilians on Wednesday participated in a run in the national capital to mark the 11th International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

More than 3,500 jawans of the Narcotics Control Bureau, CRPF, ITBP, BSF, Coast Guard, SSB, CISF, NCC, Scouts and volunteers from educational institutes took part in the run.

Flagging off the event, Delhi Education and Social Welfare Minister Kiran Walia said the city government was committed to curb the menace of drug abuse.

She also administered a pledge to the participants to say no to drugs.

"The Delhi government is committed to curb the menace of drug abuse prevailing in the society and has taken a number of steps such as opening of new detox centres, drug de-addition camps apart from launching massive publicity campaigns against drug abuse for mass awareness," Walia said.

"The state government has initiated a proposal of strengthening the institutional mechanism," she added.

The volunteers and participants ran holding banners and placards in their hands with messages against drug abuse to sensitise people.
