The growing number of children who have gone missing remained a cause of concern for police in 2012 too.

As many as 5,284 children went missing in 2012 against 5,111 in 2011. The police managed to find 4,051 of them. The percentage of children found in 2012, however, was the lowest in five years.
A majority of children who went missing either leave on their own or after being scolded by parents.
A study conducted by the Delhi Legal Services Authority, a statutory body appointed by the Delhi High Court, revealed that the children either left on their own or sometime lost their way.
