The Delhi Police Saturday charged BSP MP Dhananjay Singh’s dentist wife Jagriti with murdering her maid and the legislator of abeting the crime and destroying evidence — offences that may land both behind bars for life.
It came a day after Singh, 39, was charge-sheeted in another case where he is accused of raping a railway employee for four years.
Rakhi Bhadra, 35, from West Bengal was found dead in the MP’s official residence in Delhi’s South Avenue on November 4. Her body bore deep injury marks, allegedly from months of torture. The couple was arrested the next day.
The charges against Jagriti, 29, in the charge sheet filed before a metropolitan magistrate, are murder, attempt to murder, wrongful confinement and unlawful compulsory labour.
Singh, the MP from Jaunpur in UP, is charged with abetment, destruction of evidence and employing a minor.
According to the police, 20 cameras installed in the house yielded footage of Jagriti beating her three helps, including another woman and a minor boy.
“Jagriti is seen giving merciless beatings to all three domestic helps and compelling them to work day and night by holding them captive in the house,” the police said in the charge sheet.
The prosecutor said a hard disc of the CCTV footage submitted with the charge sheet contained “sensitive information” and requested it be kept in a “sealed cover”. The court posted the charge sheet for consideration on February 4.
