Delhi government comes up with scheme for journos

The Delhi government has agreed to set up a welfare scheme for working journalists accredited with the state government. The cabinet, led by chief minister Sheila Dikshit, stamped its approval on the scheme on Monday.

The Delhi government has agreed to set up a welfare scheme for working journalists accredited with the state government. The cabinet, led by chief minister Sheila Dikshit, stamped its approval on the scheme on Monday.

According to the chief minister, the scheme is instituted to provide one-time ex-gratia relief on urgent basis to journalists and their dependents in case of death or permanent disability or any other exigency.

“A maximum of Rs 3 lakh will be provided to the family under extreme hardship on account of death or a maximum of R2 lakh in case of permanent disability. A maximum of Rs 1 lakh will be given in case of any other exigency, dire need or distress,” Dikshit told reporters.
