A truck's rear tyre caved into a two-feet-wide pit near gate number 1 of Yamuna Sports Complex. The Public Works Department (PWD) blamed the power discom for "trench less technology" for their power lines.

A senior PWD official, on condition of anonymity, said, "Thanks to the trench less procedure taken up by the power company, the road caved in around early morning. The truck was pulled out using a crane and then our people carried out immediate repairs."

Another smaller cave in occurred on August Kranti Marg when a biker got stuck in the newly laid road near Siri Fort in south Delhi.

Apart from the road cave ins, the civic authorities received their usual share of complaints of water logging.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) received 78 complaints of waterlogging, 28 complaints of falling of trees or tree parts and four complaints of building portions falling from various parts of town.

Of the over 75 waterlogging complaints, the maximum — 30 — were received from South zone, according to a MCD statement adding, the areas included Lado Sarai, Hauz Khas, Saket Colony, Sheikh Sarai, Khanpur, Munirka village, R K Puram Sector 4 and Mehrauli.

Traffic snarls were witnessed at Ashram Chowk, Vikas Marg, ITO, Ring Road, Dhaula Kuan, Azadpur, Singhada Chowk, Kalindi Kunj, Madhuban Chowk, Mayapuri and Naraina.
