The DJB, which initiated the meter installation drive to ensure transparency in the billing system, had set April 30 as the deadline to install water metres.

Once installed, these meters will help in accurate accounting of total water distributed to the consumers who will pay for actual consumption of water instead of the faulty average billing system, a DJB official said.

The DJB has also given specifications of the meters to be installed. The officials said the meters can be easily procured from any hardware store in Delhi.

They said after purchasing the new meter, consumers should get it installed by a DJB-licensed plumber and report the installation to the respective zonal revenue officer, enclosing the unique number of the installed meter.

The DJB has also made available a list of concerned zonal revenue officers and the licensed plumbers along with their contact references in its website -- www.Delhijalboard.Nic.In.
