The Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing (EoW) have arrested Avidesh Mittal (50) for allegedly using forged documents to clear a construction project in Greater Kailash.

Seeking his custodial remand, the police told the court, “Further custodial interrogation of the accused is required to find out the specific role played by the other accused persons including Sunil Goyal and Ajay Gupta, the other directors of Showman Construction, NK Chauhan (structural engineer) and Reema Mittal, wife of the accused.”

Vijay Aggarwal counsel for Rajender Chabra — who lodged the complaint against Mittal, contended that the accused used computer generated forged earthquake proof certificate, bill and other documentation to shield the poor construction of the building. The police said, “The accused is disclosing bit by bit and is required to be interrogated at length to unearth the entire conspiracy.”

During the investigations EoW found that Chauhan had prepared a report stating the property in question is earthquake resistant and is fit for inhabitation. “He supervised the report without having a look at the building and other documentation,” told Aggarwal to the court.

The court dismissed the contention of Mittal’s counsel and granted police three custodial interrogation of Mittal to unearth the entire racket.

A case was registered against Mittal in 2008 as the neighbours complained about rackety construction in the area, as the building had developed cracks at various places.
