Castigated FOR maligning probe officials in the Jessica Lall murder case with intention to help main accused Manu Sharma, the Special Investigating Team(SIT) on Friday gave a clean chit to all the policemen involved in the investigations in 1999 and sought the quashing of the controversial second FIR. Following this, the court wound up all proceedings against the policemen and asked SIT to take steps to get the second FIR — lodged on March 6, 2006 after the acquittal of all the accused — quashed.

“The fresh FIR is a conspiracy to help the accused,” the court had said on July 18.

Amod Kanth, then Joint Commissioner (Southern Range) concurred with the view of the High Court, saying his stand had been vindicated. “The second FIR was indeed a conspiracy to help the accused. I demand a probe into into the whole conspiracy to help the accused. By discrediting the probe officials they only wanted to discredit the evidence collected which was ultimately used by the High Court to convict Manu Sharma.” Kanth said.
