Wholesale prices of onions in the Capital jumped from Rs 42 per kg last week to Rs. 60 while retail price is now touching Rs. 75-Rs. 78 per kg and Rs. 80 per kg in some parts of south Delhi like Greater Kailash and Moti Bagh.

The jump has been attributed to a sharp dip in supply of onions from the southern states due to heavy rains, which is usually buffered by imports - that have been delayed.

Agri-cooperative Nafed said the price rise is temporary and that onion from Maharashtra would reach Delhi within the next fortnight.
