Delhi sizzles as mercury levels remain high

The maximum temperature on Thursday dipped a little as compared to Wednesday, but did not offer any relief to the people. The maximum was recorded at 42.2 degrees Celsius - three degrees above the average for this time of the season.

The minimum too was two notches above average, at 31 degrees Celsius. Frequent power cuts across many parts of the city only added to the Delhiites' misery.

According to an official of Delhi Transco Limited, the power shortage on Thursday was 378 MW, as the maximum demand rose to 3967 MW.

"Some of the power stations in the northern region have been having problems, thus leading to the power shortage here," the official said.

For Friday, the meteorological department has predicted a partly cloudy sky, with the maximum and minimum temperatures hovering around 42 degrees and 31 degrees Celsius respectively.
