Delhi University extends last date for foreign students to May 31

Delhi University has extended the last date of online submission of admission forms for foreign students till May 31.

“The admission committee recommended for an extension so we facilitated it,” said Amrit Kaur Basra, deputy dean, foreign students registry.

But for the MPhil, PhD programmes, the last date is already over. Applications to the School of Open Learning (SOL) from foreign nationals of Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan is June 30.

The applications of foreign students are forwarded to the admission committee constituted by the department or faculty concerned for screening.

The committee shortlists the applications according to the eligibility, merit and number of seats.

English proficiency certificate of TOEFL (minimum 70) or IELTS (minimum 6 band) scores are mandatory for foreign students. The university reserves 5% of the seats for foreign nationals.

Foreign nationals who have appeared for grade 12th examination from an Indian Board or passed their last qualifying examination from an Indian University are eligible for the 5% quota.

Every year, students from SAARC countries, Afghanistan, south east Asian and African countries apply in large numbers.

Bachelor of commerce, computer science and economics are the most preferred courses at the undergraduate level.

Admitted students are accommodated in the International Students’ House for Men and Women. In addition, there are a few reserved seats for foreign students in seven post-graduate hostels for men and four hostels for women. The seats in hostels are allocated as per merit.

This year itself, the Faculty of Management Studies that offer MBA courses had received 302 applications from students of 39 countries, including UK, US, Palestine and Georgia.

Last year, FMS had received around 120-130 applications from eight countries.
