Dividing DTC to improve efficiency

On the lines of Delhi police, municipal corporation and the revenue department of Delhi government, Delhi transport Corporation (DTC) would also be divided into different districts.

Senior DTC officials said the division of the state transport corporation would help in effective management. "With each district in the Capital having 5-6 bus depots, efforts will be made to turn all the districts commercially profitable by ensuring maximum buses are out on the routes,” a senior DTC official said.
While 44 DTC bus depots would be equally distributed among the nine districts, the prestigious Millennium Park Depot, which catered to the transport requirements for the Commonwealth Games last year, would be treated as a 'special bus unit' and would be run separately, the official said.
All new projects related to DTC and transportation system in Delhi would be initiated at the Millennium Park Depot, official added.
"These recommendations have been made by JS Malhotra Committee, which was appointed to suggest measures to turn DTC into a profitable venture. The Malhotra Committee report would soon be tabled at DTC's board meeting," the official said.
