DMRC orders survey to end traffic disruptions

In a bid to minimise traffic obstructions on the busy Ring Road while it is constructing the Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar corridor, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has commissioned a traffic management survey on the 22 km long stretch.

This is the longest stretch on which the DMRC has ever carried out such a survey.

The corporation is likely to start construction work on its 55.9 km Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar corridor by the end of this year. This corridor, which is going to be the longest metro corridor, will be spread across the Ring Road.

The DMRC has hired a specialised agency — M/s TPA Engineers Consultancy Pvt Ltd — to carry out a survey of sections of the Ring Road, to minimise inconvenience to commuters during Metro construction work on the arterial road.

“The survey was started on September 1 at the Bhikaji Cama Place-Shalimar Bagh section. The agency conducting the survey has identified 12 traffic junctions on the 22 km long stretch for the study,” said Anuj Dayal, spokesperson, DMRC.

Officials said the survey would help DMRC control and divert heavy traffic on Ring Road during the construction of this Phase 3 line.

The main highlights of the survey include a study of the traffic flow and a possible route of diversion during the construction. After the survey the agency will submit a report to DMRC and also give a presentation to the Delhi traffic police.

Based on the outcome of the findings, DMRC will propose traffic diversions plans to the Delhi traffic police.
