Starting off a riot is no big deal in a city where everyone is on a short fuse. “What is it to you? Who are you to teach me manners?” are the stock responses when you ask someone why they are so rude.

Delhiites also excel at giving offence — without intending it, of course.

The chief executive of a movie theatre chain, who did not wish to be named, told Hindustan Times, “Our audience is our bread and butter, so I would not like to say anything negative about it; however, disregard for the comfort of fellow viewers is a major problem. We can only pray that they would see the fine line between their comfort and other viewers’ discomfort.”
