DTU impasse refuses to end

Adamant on having their demands accepted, students of first, second and third year boycotted the rescheduled mid-semester examination in significant numbers.

Only 35 out of close to 2,200 students of the first three years appeared. Others chose to stay away and register their protest in an unusual manner.

They donated blood at RML and LNJP hospitals.

“The fourth year students have appeared for the examination as we do not want them to jeopardise their future,” said a second year student.

Students are agitating against the conversion of their institution from Delhi College of Engineering to a state university. They also want their Vice Chancellor relieved of his duties.

Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit has shot down these demands.

Officials said the re-scheduled exam was the last opportunity for students. “Those who fail to appear will forfeit their mid-sem marks, which account for 20 per cent of the total semester score,” a statement said.
