DUSU poll: NSUI scraps nomination system

With this, the student wing of the Congress has discarded the nomination system for DUSU elections. The move is part of Gandhi's efforts to "democratise" the Youth Congress and NSUI through inner-party elections.

An electoral college of NSUI delegates from various Delhi University colleges elected the candidates after hearing the speeches from aspirants on their respective agenda. A total of 412 votes were polled out of which 410 votes were declared valid. One seat was reserved for a girl candidate and the other for SC/ST.

Harish Choudhary, a first year student of STGB Khalsa College, polled the highest 119 votes followed by A.A. Vardhan Choudhary, a second year student of Ramjas college, with 95 votes.

Deepika Deshwal and Akshay Kumar (SC), both enrolled as students of M.A. Buddhist studies at Delhi University, secured 22 and 16 votes respectively.

The polls were held under the observation of Joseph Mathew, a representative of

the J.M. Lyngdoh-headed Foundation for Advanced Management for Election (FAME), which supervises NSUI and Youth Congress
elections.

"These are the final candidates, but who will contest which post will be decided later," NSUI general secretary Mohammad Shahnawaz Choudhary said.
