The 2.76-km stretch from Dwarka Sector 9 to Dwarka Sector 21 was opened at 6 am.

The new stations are an extension of Line 3 and 4 — between Dwarka and Noida, and Dwarka and Anand Vihar.

The station master of the Dwarka Sector-21 station flagged off the first train going towards Noida City Centre in the presence of senior Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials, a few days after the line received the mandatory clearance from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety.

DMRC officials said every alternate train from Noida/Anand Vihar will go up till Sector 21 and the maximum waiting time will be 3 minutes.

"The extension of the line will be very beneficial in the future as there is a development plan for bus and train terminals, malls and hotels," said a DMRC spokesperson.

The opening of the line is also significant as Dwarka Sector-21 will become a major interchange station once the Airport Express Line becomes operational next month.

"We will not have to depend on autos and buses anymore," said Prashant Nair, a resident of Dwarka Sector 8.
