Elevated corridor to make ride smoother in W Delhi
There is some good news for motorists taking the Outer Ring Road to travel to and from west and south-west Delhi to north-west Delhi, reports Anuradha Mukherjee.
There is some good news for motorists taking the Outer Ring Road to travel to and from west and south-west Delhi to north-west Delhi. Soon they will have a 3-km long elevated corridor between Mangolpuri Chowk and Deepali Chowk near Rohini to make their journey fast, signal-free and smooth.
The elevated road is part of the Delhi government’s measures to make the Outer Ring Road more user-friendly, with the number of motorists using the stretch increasing by the day. This elevated road will mean a smooth access for residents of west Delhi areas like Janakpuri, Paschim Vihar, Tilak Nagar, Vikaspuri and southwest Delhi colonies like Dwarka to northwest Delhi colonies like Rohini and Pitampura.
“This project will cost the Delhi government about Rs 282 crore and will be a link in the chain of flyovers and underpasses being created on the Outer Ring Road to smoothen traffic. The project plan has been sent to the DDA for approval, following which it will be forwarded to the Delhi Urban Arts Commission for clearance,” said Raj Kumar Chauhan, Delhi urban development minister.
Chauhan said the PWD has already started studying the conditions in the stretch between Mukarba Chowk and Wazirabad for augmenting of road infrastructure to ensure the entire stretch up to the Signature Bridge is bottleneck-free.
“Work orders for the approach road to Signature Bridge has already been granted and work is expected to start in July,” he added. The flyover at Mukarba Chowk, identified as a traffic black spot where the maximum number of road accidents takes place, is expected to ease traffic not only to Outer Ring Road, but also outbound traffic headed for Haryana.
“The underpass at Behra Enclave is already under construction, while the Peeragarhi flyover is already operational. The Mangolpuri flyover will be ready in July,” said an official.
