A 40-year-old woman was shot dead — because she warned an eve-teaser not to misbehave with her teenaged daughter. Her son, also present at the scene of the altercation, was shot at too, and is in a critical state.

The shooting took place on GT Road, in the Swarup Nagar area of Outer Delhi, on Saturday.

Parul had gone for her tuition classes, when her neighbour Raju, 18, forcibly tried to grab her hand. The girl, the police said, pushed him and threatened to complain. Raju asked her to go ahead and inform her family. Then, half-an-hour later, he, along with his friend Anil, went over to Parul’s house, armed with country-made pistols.

Parul’s brother Ajay, 18, and her mother Shashi warned them they should never misbehave with Parul again. At this point, Raju took out a pistol and shot at Ajay. Shashi came in between and was shot in the chest. Raju then shot Ajay in the stomach.

Shashi was rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital where she was declared brought dead. Ajay was later shifted to Bara Hindu Rao Hospital. “He has lost a lot of blood,” a senior officer said.

The accused were arrested from the spot by a Police Control Room van stationed nearby. “We have registered a case and
arrested the accused,” said DCP Sagar- preet Hooda.
