The disputed land, measuring 2.4 acres, was allotted to the society for a school, which was built in a portion of the premises in 1982.

The vacant part of the land, which is still under the possession of the housing society, was claimed by a couple of parties.

"A couple of civil suits were filed against us by vested interests but these were dismissed," said Saigal, a retired IAS official.

The society wanted to convert the land into a green area. "The work was started but was later stopped as we got threats from some miscreants."
