Eye on polls, Congress to hard sell its initiatives

With less than six months left for the Delhi assembly elections, the Sheila Dikshit government is all set to take the citizen-friendly initiatives initiated by it in the last few years to the electorate.

From Sunday, the Congress government will hold special camps to make people aware about the e-SLA service it launched two years ago to deliver several government services to people of Delhi in a time-bound manner.

The Congress government will hold four such camps each Sunday in different parts of the Capital.

Under e-SLA, the government has fixed a maximum time-frame for delivering various services to consumers. If the department fails to take action within the set time-frame, the consumer can complain to higher authorities and get compensation, which in turn will be deducted from the salary of the official concerned.

There are 116 services, including electricity and water connections, issuance of driver licences, ration card, birth and death certificates and certificates to verify age, domicile, income and caste being covered under the e-SLA.

The Congress government has given the Bhagidari cell the responsibility of spreading awareness about this facility.

“It is a great initiative started by the Delhi government and needs to be promoted. Not many states in the country offer such a facility,” an official said.

The government disposed of more than 46 lakh applications for 116 services offered by it under the e-SLA programme ever since it was initiated. “The fact that not even a single of the remaining 3 lakh applicants tried to claim compensation is proof that they were not aware about this facility. It is a great tool and the citizens must use it effectively,” the official added.
