"This showed India is a true democracy...It was a fair trial like any other trial where a person accused of such heinous crimes was tried like any other person. It is a moment for India to be proud of," party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters.

Singhvi said Kasab faced trial in 312 criminal counts and "no process of legitimate law was circumvented".

Seventeen months after he and nine other terrorists unleashed death and devastation on Mumbai, a special anti-terror court today convicted 22-year-old Kasab for the carnage that left 166 people dead.
