The issue of land acquisition for proposed Industrial Model Town (IMT) has hot up due to the rigid stand taken by both the Haryana government and the residents of six villages of Ballabgarh in Faridabad district with the latter outrightly turning down the compensation package offer on Tuesday.

The state government is in the process of acquiring about 1,832 acres of land in six villages of Ballabgarh like Nawada-Tiyaon, Machhgar, Chandawli, Sotai, Mujheri and Uchhagaon for setting up Industrial Model Town. The officials however, had to face the music of the agitating farmers and villagers, who descended at the rest house in Ballabgarh to protest the government’s move.

Irate villagers raised anti-government slogans and demanded immediate revoking of the land acquision order. “ In no case are we going to surrender our fertile agricultural land for a song”, said Rachna Sharma, President, Kissan Mazdoor Sangarash Samiti. (KMSS)

“We outrightly refused the amount offered,” she said. She claimed that since the farmers, are strongly opposed to the forced acquistion of their lands, they would go to any extent to resist the government’s move.

She said that some aggrieved farmers have set up temporary hutments on their fields to watch round the clock attempt, if any on the government’s part for forcible acquistion. “We have come to know that our land is being taken for a meager amount of Rs 24.56 lakh ( 24 lakh, 56 thousand and 110 Rs per acre) where as cost per acre is around Rs 1.50 crore)”, she claimed.
