Fashion faux pas in the campus are as routine as gay men in fashion houses. In fact, it would be good if the Fashion Design Council of India stops its bickering and takes a trip around the DU campus.

Here they can see their much tom-tommed ramp to rack initiative coming alive in all its bloom. A few kids are truly stylish but many are just... how to put it... duds. They are the eye-sores. Guys in netted banyans, sleeveless tees showing hairy armpits and multi-coloured jeans.

Then there are girls who are dressed to kill - literally!. Jhataak red suits with gold embellishments, capris with white lace for finish and what not. These are the funny people the eyeball alley survives on. Remember Jessica Wakefield and her friends in Sweet Valley Twins?

Pity those students. After all, it's easy to get lured into an embarrassment. However, a little gyan would go a long way in making your 3-year-long ramp walk in college a respectable one.

Yeah, play with colours. Go for sandy grey, shocking purple, electric green, chocolate brown. But stop! Don't experiment too much with cuts. Remember, it's a college. Don't be revealing; don't go overboard in decking up. And no, don't wear embroidered denims. Some poor dahlings come swinging by in jeans that have chaloo white or pink lace tucked on pockets and expect the crowd to greet them like Donatella Versace.

Designer Manju Grover says that very short skirts are a complete no-no because they serve as a distraction. So, what to wear? Grover says that students should stick to comfortable jeans, capris, bermudas and cotton pants. "If they want to experiment, waistcoats are a good option. Floaters and crocs are in but please remain away from stilettos. In college you should be chilled out and not try to be a part of a fashion parade," she says.

It is sensible never to forget that college life is also about roughing it out in buses and autos and so students should definitely keep comfort in mind. But please, no pyjamas. The out-of-the-bed look is not in anymore.
