Fed up with the corrupt and non-transparent Indian polity, a nonagenarian freedom fighter plans to evoke Mahatma Gandhi's favourite way to protest — the Satyagraha by way of fast unto death — from January 30, the father of the nation's death anniversary.

Founder member of the Gandhian Satygraha Brigade (GSB), Shambhu Dutta (93) is buoyant with energy that will put any young person to shame.

For over a decade, there have been demands for implementation of the recommendations of the 2nd Administrative Reforms Commission's (ARC) report on 'Ethical Governance'.

The three main demands, same as the main recommendations of the ARC, are: appointment of an effective Lokpal; disqualification of candidates with criminal background seeking to become elected representatives and confiscation of illegally acquired property of public servants.

Murari Lal Gupta (90), Amar Nath Khanna (89), R S Devi (84), Govind Narain Seth (78) and E Jems Rajasekaran (51) are the five other satyagrahi members of GSB who would join Sharma in his fast unto death from January 30.
