Five women arrested for thefts during Navratra

Delhi Police have arrested five women who used to commit thefts at temples during Navratra.

Delhi Police have arrested five women who used to commit thefts at temples during Navratra.

According to police, the women were arrested red-handed in three separate incidents.

In the first incident, one Madan Lal, on Saturday claimed that a woman snatched his wife's gold chain when they had gone to Kalkaji Mandir.

"At around 6am, someone snatched a gold chain from Sushila. Madan, Sushila's husband immediately looked back and saw a woman standing there. He called the police and during search, the chain was recovered from the said woman," said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity, as he was not authorised to speak to the media.

The accused women have been identified as Babita and Rakhi, a resident of Rewari in Haryana.

In the second incident, two women snatched the wallet of a man at around 10 am in Kalkaji Mandir.

The arrested women have been identified as Reena and Babli, while one Javti was arrested on the same day in the evening when she was trying to snatch the wallet of a woman.

A case has been registered at the Kalkaji Police station and further investigations are on. Police are interrogating the women to find out their involvement in more such cases.
