For victims’ families, Bunty’s death is end to sleepless nights

One family was expecting their son to get a better paying job, the other was proud of their son for doing well in business and third family was entirely dependant on one man.

Till the ill-fated day of July 11, these three families were living their lives in different ways.

Bunty gang changed their lives.

Ashneet Singh and Hardeep Singh, two friends, were gunned down in Amar Colony when they went out to have soft drinks at the market. The gang was attempting a robbery. Sanjeev Suri was shot dead fifteen minutes later when he tried to intervene in a robbery attempt.

On Monday, as the news of Bunty’s death in an encounter, these families had with mixed feelings.

Ashneet’s family
His mother Sukhbir Kaur gets scared every time someone rings the doorbell. His father Jaspal Singh has not gone to work since the incident. “Bunty destroyed our lives. He could have taken all the money we had. Why did he kill our son? I hope
all of them burn in hell,” said Sukhbir Kaur.

The incident has taken a toll on his father who remains unwell and has difficulty in sleeping. “He was an ideal son. He lived for his family. His wanted to have a lavish wedding for his sister and was planning to go to Australia. How could they shoot an innocent boy just like that? I died the day I had to bring back my young son’s body,” said Singh who owns a screen-printing business.

Their younger son and two daughters are too shocked to react. They were all planning to throw him a surprise party on his birthday on November 27.

Sanjeev Suri’s family
“I was extremely happy when I saw the news of his encounter on television. I always wished that he would die the way he killed my husband. Because of him, my young children lost their father,” said Sunita, Sanjeev Suri’s wife.

Since morning, she has received a number of messages from friends and family. “They are happy because they know this is what I had wanted. If he was caught alive, he would have again gone scot-free and killed more people, ” she said.

The last one month has been difficult for her. She is still getting accustomed to looking after their two children alone.

Hardeep’s family
Kanwaljeet Singh lost his only son. He is happy that Bunty is dead but not completely satisfied. “If he was caught alive, he could have told the police why he killed my son. I have many unanswered questions,” he said.

A management graduate, Hardeep had started a new business and, according to his father, was doing better than him. “My daughter too has changed as she was very close to him. I do not feel like working or doing anything,” he said.

Naresh Garg
He was one of the lucky few, who survived Bunty’s killing spree. But it came at price as he spent 27 days at a hospital recuperating from the bullet injuries. “The police has done a great job. Now businessmen like us can work in peace,” he said.
