Former CJI, three others honoured

President Pratibha Patil on Saturday confers the National Law Day awards on four eminent jurists and lawyers.

President Pratibha Patil on Saturday conferred the National Law Day awards on four eminent jurists and lawyers including former Chief Justice of India AS Anand, Bar Council of India chairman Gopakumar Nair and corporate lawyer Diljeet Titus.

The Law Day Award was also presented to the president of Society of Indian Law Firms Lalit Bhasin by Patil at the "International conference of jurists on rule of law" held in New Delhi.



While Anand was given the award for administration of justice, BCI chief Nair was awarded for his contribution towards legal education.



Corporate lawyer Titus was awarded for his achievements in the field of commercial laws, while Bhasin for his contribution to bar affairs.



The awardees were selected by a jury chaired by former CJI PN Bhagwati.



The earlier recipients of the National Law Day awards include present law minister HR Bhardwaj, Attorney General Milon K Banerjee, noted criminal lawyer Ram Jethmalani and former chief justices RC Lahoti and AM Ahmadi.
