But the gang of thieves, who worked as domestic helps, was busted by the police, cutting their journey short.

The special staff of West Delhi police arrested four notorious Nepalese criminals headed by one convicted criminal named Buddhi Ram. All four had worked as domestic servants.

"Buddhi Ram was previously convicted for seven years for similar crimes. He used to plant his relatives as domestic helps in people's houses and as and when the gang thought it was the right time they would drug the family and then steal items. Buddhi Ram supplied sedatives to the planted servants, who mixed it in the food. Three such incidents of house burglaries have been solved with their arrest," said V Renganathan, additional commissioner of police (west).

The arrested are Buddhi Ram (47), Bikram (21), Bikas (26) and Jeevan Kumar (24) in the case. During interrogation, police said, Buddhi Ram disclosed that he came to India 12 years ago and started as a domestic help.

"In 2003, he met one Gopal Narain who was inspired by the film Bawarchi in which the domestic servant after attaining the good faith of his employer planned to commit robbery by drugging them. Gopal gave this suggestion to Buddhi Ram. He conspired with Gopal and committed the robbery by intoxicating the family members in Guru Harikrishan Nagar, Paschim Vihar," said Renganathan.

Buddhi Ram successfully planted Bikram in Vikaspuri and when he gained the family's confidence, they drugged them and committed the robbery. Buddhi Ram used to distribute the booty according to his own will and kept a higher share for himself. He had threatened others who objected to his larger share by saying he would get them arrested.

Buddhi Ram used to call one of his receivers from Naraingarh in Nepal through Bikas. The gang also disclosed about commissioning of a house theft in Mianwali Nagar and Patel Nagar.

Police said the gang was wanted in a case of burglary in a Vikaspuri house.
