Gas agency to be probed for fake customers

Bharat Gas has initiated an enquiry into allegations of procurement of subsidised LPG cylinders under bogus customer names by Delhi Gas—an Uttam Nagar based cooking gas agency.

Bharat Gas has initiated an enquiry into allegations of procurement of subsidised LPG cylinders under bogus customer names by Delhi Gas—an Uttam Nagar based cooking gas agency.

The agency has been issued show cause notices and asked to provide valid customer identification documents on the cooking gas connections.

Bharat Gas—the LPG arm of petrochemical firm BPCL—had received complaints that the agency owner is procuring "several hundreds" of subsidised LPG cylinders under fake names and later sells them in black market at hefty price.

"We have identified close to 120 such connections and probing the matter,"said a senior BPCL executive. He added that Rajesh Bharadwaj, owner of Delhi Gas is involved in a legal tussle over ownership issues.
