Gender help desks for women in Delhi during CWG

The DCW held a discussion on Tuesday with various government agencies and announced its plans to set up dedicated help desks for women in airports, railway stations, interstate bus terminals and in all the venues of the event.

"We will set up gender help desks at the airport, railway stations and various venues of the event to offer all sorts of help to women visitors," DCW chairperson Barkha Singh said.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit hailed the plan to set up 'gender help desks' and promised to extend all help to the DCW for the purpose.

She said there is a need to have synergised intervention to ensure safety of women.

"We need to work with a large number of support agencies to ensure that everybody is aware of respecting rights of women and their rights to privacy," Dikshit said.

The desk will be operated by trained staff and would be operational 24 hours in entry points and 16 hours at the stadiums. The desk will have information about services available, emergency transport facility, access to emergency shelters, access to emergency medical care and access to the police.
