A minor spat with her own mother over the amount of corn on the cob that she was given to munch on, led an 11-year-old girl to commit suicide at her residence in southeast Delhi, police said on Monday.

Identified as Vineesha, a resident of the Dakshinpuri area and a student of Class 4 at a local government school, the victim was found hanging from a ceiling fan at 8.30pm on Sunday night.

"She and her two younger brothers had accompanied their mother to their grandmother's residence for lunch on Sunday afternoon where the children were given three equal portions of the corn on the cob," said a senior police officer.

Claiming that she was given a shorter piece, police said, Vineesha had an argument with her younger brother forcing their mother to intervene and to scold her for initiating an argument for no reason.

Police said the victim's father, Sadan Singh, works as a security guard in the Panchsheel Park area in south Delhi.

"Vineesha got angry and upset when her mother supported her brothers, she rushed to her house on own her own and hung herself from the ceiling fan with her mother's chunni. She was rushed to the Trauma Centre at Aiims where she was declared brought dead," the officer added.

Man found hanging
In another case, a 25-year-old man was found hanging from a tree in outer Delhi's Mongolpuri area on Monday. Police said the incident came to light at 6am from the Industrial Park area.

"The victim is yet to be identified. He was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where he was declared brought dead. No suicide note was recovered from his possession. He had used his shirt to hang from the tree," said a police officer.
