Special Judge BR Kedia sentenced Haryana resident Sukhbir Singh to three years in jail and fined him Rs 10,000.

“The instant case demonstrates the modalities of corruption being adopted by Delhi traffic police, which is stated to be on rising trend and therefore, the same requires to be arrested strictly,” the court said.

“(The) cancer of corruption has spread its tentacles in social life to such an extent that the belief of common man on the institutional work is obliterated,” the court said.

The case dates back to 2006 when Singh was posted in Hauz Khas. He had demanded R5,000 as bribe from complainant Manish Kaushik whose bus was plying between Saket and Mori Gate.

Singh had threatened him with getting his bus impounded.
