Gmail turns inaccessible for many users

Gmail, the popular email application from search engine major Google, went inaccessible late in the evening today for more than an hour. It is for the second time this month that Gmail became dysfunctional for some time.

The service was found dysfunctional at around 2030 hrs IST. However at around 2200 hrs IST, it was business as usual on Gmail, much to the comfort of millions of users.

It is for the second time this month that Gmail became dysfunctional for some time.

In the evening hours when users attempted to log into their accounts, they were greeted with the message, "We’re sorry, but your Gmail account is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience and suggest trying again in a few minutes".

When contacted, a spokesperson for Google India said she was not aware of any problem with Gmail.

Google later in a message posted on the Gmail site said the service has been restored for some users.

Users' frustration at not being able to log in to their accounts were pouring in on micro blogging site Twitter. Hundreds of tweets complained that Gmail was inaccessible. One of the tweets said the inaccessibility is frustrating while another one commented that the same thing has happened in less than a month.
