Prolific director and scriptwriter Anurag Kashyap, best known for his movies Black Friday and No Smoking gets candid with HT City and shares a slice of his college life spent at Hansraj, Delhi University, where he studied Zoology .
Tell us about your Campus life?
College days were the best days of my life. I still remember hanging out at the Hansraj canteen and all the Tibetan food joints in Kamala Nagar. And the famous lover's point, of course.
As a hosteller, I used to hangout outside the back gate of Miranda House Hostel (laughs). I was a part of the college dramatics society, where I was involved in production and back stage stuff. I was also the vice captain of the college hockey team. I had many friends in Hindu and SRCC. Imtiaaz Ali (a Hindu graduate) was my closest friend in those days and we still continue to share the same camaraderie.
Any memory that still makes you laugh?
Once we all decided to ride off to Chanakya to catch a movie. None of us knew the way .We left in the morning and reached Chanakya around 6 in the evening. I can never forget this incident.
What about college crushes?
I had just one crush in college. She was my senior and I won't name her because she is married now and has a kid. I met my wife when I was in the first year of college. She is my batchmate.
Have you been to the campus lately?
Yes, I have. I shot my upcoming film Dev. D in Hansraj campus. The college staff has acted in the film and Sanjay Kumar, the dramatics teacher is also a part of it. In fact, every time I'm in the city I make sure to visit my college at least once.
This time while shooting the movie, I spent a lot of time at the hostel mess with the old staff there. It was quite nostalgic. All collegegoers should enjoy their college life to the fullest. Those days don't come back.
