The bill which seeks to hike the salaries by more than three times was cleared by the Union Cabinet earlier in the day.

The Cabinet gave its nod to increase the basic salaries of the law makers from Rs 16,000 to Rs 50,000 per month.

Proceedings in the Lok Sabha were paralysed today following protest from RJD, SP, Shiv Sena, Akali Dal members who were dissatisfied by the quantum of the hike.

They were demanding the wages be raised to at least Rs 80,001, a rupee more than the salary of the Cabinet Secretary.
