The Delhi government will provide fire safety measures in its 441 more schools in the city.

Chief minister Sheila Dikshit said the Public Works Department (PWD) has been asked to ensure "full fire safety" in all government schools. The work includes installation of fire alarm, provision for fire-fighting cylinders, water hose and adequate arrangements to escape in case of fire in the building.
The Delhi Cabinet on Friday approved Rs 112.15 crore to make these schools fire safe.
According to education department officials, fire safety measures have already been installed in 241 school buildings while the work is in progress in 20 other schools. "Once the work starts, we will take up the remaining 180 schools also," said a senior Delhi government official.
According to a fire department survey in 2012, the majority of government as well as private schools did not have fire safety measures.
