The tribunal had on April 12 issued notices to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, central government departments, besides the governments of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana while hearing a petition that accused them of not ensuring rainwater harvesting at Metro stations in Delhi and NCR.

On Monday, lawyers of only DMRC and two central departments appeared.

Environmentalist and petitioner Vikrant Kumar Tongad said, "Using the yardsticks of Delhi Jal Board, it's clear that more than 8 crore litres of water is being wasted every monsoon."
