Gujjar leaders in the Capital form all All India Gujjar Sangharsh Samiti to take their demands to a logical conclusion.

Smarting under what they called as the repressive policies of the Rajasthan government, Gujjar leaders in the Capital on Wednesday formed all All India Gujjar Sangharsh Samiti to take their demands to a logical conclusion.

Colonel Kirori Singh Bainsla, the turbaned Gujjar leader from Rajasthan who led the community in the recent agitation said: "My main goal is to get dignity and respect for the community". He referred to getting Scheduled Tribe status for the Gujjars of Rajasthan as a goal and asked for implementing creamy layer concept in reservations.

Bainsla, Delhi MLA Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Haryana MLA Sukhbir Singh Jaunpuria and other Gujjar leaders addressed a news conference in New Delhi and alleged that the police was victimising Gujjars. "Young men are being asked to report to the police stations, booked in false cases and harassed," said Bidhuri, the NCP MLA from Delhi.

The newly formed Samiti said they would soon approach the Supreme Court to seek an independent probe into the incidents of arson, loot and killings of the Gujjar community in Rajasthan. "This will determine the truth as to who was behind the unsavoury incidents that led to loss of life and property," said Bainsla. He claimed that the place from where he was leading the agitation, not a single paise worth of government property was destroyed.

Bidhuri said in the next three months, the organisation would reach out to the Gujjars all over the country and plead them to unite for the cause of the community. "We will hold an All India rally at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi to press for the demand of ST status for the Gujjars of Rajasthan," he added.

On the committee formed by the Rajasthan government to determine ST status for the Gujjars, the Samiti members said if the outcome is in their favour, they will welcome it. "But if the decision goes against our interests, we will continue to agitate till we get the ST status," said Roop Singh, the Spokesman of the Rajasthan unit of the Samiti.
