The Railways is patting itself on the back for its timely decision to run special trains for panic-stricken passengers heading from Bangalore to Guwahati.
The Railways is patting itself on the back for its timely decision to run special trains for panic-stricken passengers heading from Bangalore to Guwahati.
Approximately 6,000 passengers boarded two special trains run on the Bangalore-Chennai-Guwahati route on Wednesday, and two more specials were being run on Thursday night with around 4,000 passengers onboard.
No upper limit exists on the number of unreserved train tickets that can be sold in a day, which was one of the reasons for the chaos at Bangalore station.
South-Western Railways general manager AK Mittal told HT that running special trains under such circumstances was "routine" work.
"An unexpectedly high number of passengers assembled at the station. There was no option but to move them," Mittal said.
