head of fake drugs racket arrested

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police apprehended Vikas Sharma, the head of an interstate racket of spurious drug manufacturing and trading from the Grand Trunk Road in Haryana on Wednesday, police said.

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police apprehended Vikas Sharma, the head of an interstate racket of spurious drug manufacturing and trading from the Grand Trunk Road in Haryana on Wednesday, police said.

According to police, Sharma used to procure ayurvedic medicines from a factory located at Sonepat, Haryana before packing them in strips of branded drug companies at his factory in East Gokul Puri and passing them off as authentic medicines, South Delhi.

“He was manufacturing everything from pain killers to digestive tablets for children, though the latter was only to provide a cover for his spurious manufacturing practices,” said Alok Kumar, deputy commissioner of police, special cell.

Sharma had been evading arrest for more than two years and had been declared a proclaimed offender.
