A 21-year-old household help and his accomplice were arrested for holding hostage and subsequently robbing a housewife in central Delhi, police said on Monday.

Last Thursday, Amod and his accomplice, Manoj Kumar, 29, had allegedly held one Rashmi Arora hostage at her Karol Bagh residence, said DC Shrivastava, additional CP (central).

"At around 3pm, when she was alone in her house, as her children had gone to school and her husband had gone to office, Pramod, newly employed, told her that two of his friends were waiting outside and he

wanted to give them water," Shrivastava said.

Suddenly, Pramod along with his two friends entered her room. One of them put a shawl on her face to muffle her screams while the other gagged her with a handkerchief, the police claimed.

"They tied her hands with a plastic rope, hit her on her face, gagged her and locked her in the toilet. When her children returned from school 10 minutes later, they ran away," Shrivastava said.

Just days later, police tracked the trio down through technical surveillance and recovered Rs 48,000 in cash, a diamond ring, three mobile phones and six silver coins from their possession.
