“I come from a rich agrarian family and the world knows about it,” the judge told Hindustan Times from Bangalore. “My legal career is an open book and I need not indulge in any wrongdoings.”

Five eminent jurists had last week asked CJI KG Balakrishnan to look into the corruption allegations against him. HT was the first to report about the jurists’ objections.

On Wednesday, mounting further pressure on the CJI to look into the charges against Justice Dinakaran, the Supreme Court and Delhi HC bar association presidents questioned his continuation as a judge.

Justice Dinakaran declined to comment on his reported visit to the capital on being summoned by the CJI. A source said the judge was in Delhi last weekend, but only to discuss the programme of a conference the CJI and he would attend in Australia later this week.

A panel of top judges (collegium) is likely to meet on Friday to discuss the issue.
