IIT develops new-age Braille

The device would facilitate faster learning of Braille among visually challenged children.

Christened as Braille Tutor, the prototype of this device was showcased for the first time at an exhibition hosted by the institute on Thursday to mark the 200th birth anniversary of Louis Braille.

The gadget has been developed by six third year students of the Computer Science department under the guidance of Professor M. Balakrishnan, dean of postgraduate studies.

“The electronic gadget developed by our students has an edge over the Braille slate as it does not require the child to write the alphabet in mirror image form and also had a feedback system which informs the user if he/she has written the letter correctly,” said Balakrishnan.
